Wildwood is known for it's Doo Wop architecture style. You can see it in the older motels and also in public facilities such as street decorations, parking signs and even boardwalk restrooms. The style is from the 1950's and 60's. It invokes the Jetson's cartoons to some extent. Many of the older Motels in this style are being preserved, some as condos. Other examples have met the wrecker's ball. The style is flexible with some buildings built to look futuristic while others are built along a Caribbean or Tahitian style

If you're looking to experience what Doo Wop is all about here a couple of things that you should see during your trip

 

  • The Wildwood Convention Center -- even from the outside it will give you some idea of the architecture and style that defines Doo Wop
  • Cool Scoops ice cream -- travel back to the nineteen fifties for your ice cream and jukebox music 
  • Rio Grande Avenue.-- this street, in the heart of Wildwood, has been extensively decorated in the fifties fashion.
